# Metabase docs++

> Search over the Metabase documentation for every supported Metabase version, the Metabase Cloud docs, the REST API reference, the embedding SDK reference, and the Learn tutorials and glossary from metabase.com. Search results are ranked passages of the docs (never generated text), each with a link to the exact heading on www.metabase.com, the plan the feature needs, and its version. Answers are generated from those passages only, and cite each claim. The index follows the docs on GitHub. A free HTTP API, with no key, serves the same search.

## API

- [GET /v1/search](https://docs.metabase.fyi/#api): `https://docs.metabase.fyi/v1/search?q=<question>&version=<v0.65>&limit=<1-30>`. Returns `{results: [{url, anchor, title, heading, snippet, plan, version, relevance}], pages: [...]}`. Limit: 120 requests a minute for each client. CORS allows any origin.
- POST /v1/ask: `{"question": "...", "history": [{"role": "user"|"assistant", "content": "..."}], "version": "v0.65", "context": {"deployment": "cloud"|"self-hosted", "plan": "...", "surface": "...", "error": "..."}}`. Streams server-sent events `retrieval` (sources), `token`, `done` (`{answer_id, answer, citations: [{n, url, title, snippet, plan, version}], grounded, followups}`); send `Accept: application/json` for one JSON object. Limit: 10 requests a minute for each client.
- GET /v1/docs?url=<docs URL> (or /v1/docs/{version}/{path}): the normalized Markdown of a docs page, with its sections and anchors as JSON; send `Accept: text/markdown` for plain Markdown.
- GET /v1/related?url=<docs URL>: pages related to a docs page.
- MCP server: `https://docs.metabase.fyi/mcp` (Streamable HTTP, stateless, no key). Tools: `search_docs(query, version?, limit?)` (ranked passages with deep links), `read_doc(url | version + path)` (a whole page as Markdown), `ask_docs(question, version?)` (a cited answer; 10 calls a minute). Claude Code: `claude mcp add --transport http metabase-docs https://docs.metabase.fyi/mcp`.
